2024 was extremely busy! Late start to the spring maintenance season for the paddock maintenance due to wet and unsettled weather. To start off with, after the delayed start to the season we headed around all our pre booked customers getting their harrowing and any over seeding of winter fields which was required. Thanks to our agromonist we were able to adjust our grass seed mixtures so we had a faster germinating mix. Whilst being able to pick and choose the fields which were dry enough, we were also carrying out Sycamore Sapling spraying. The fields which were sprayed for sycamores were the last ones to be harrowed so the harrows could dust the saplings before turning animals out for grazing. . Once that was completed we then started carrying our fertilisng and spraying for broad leaf weeds and Ragwort.
Flail mowing jobs are carried out year round keeping customers paddocks at the perfect grazing height and our commercial clients properties maintained to a picture perfect condition.
In-between all the paddock maintenance jobs and grounds maintenance jobs, we were preparing our hay and haylage fields for this years crop. Again, harrowing, fertilising, precautionary weed spray for Ragwort and broadleaf weeds to produce the best quality crop for our customers. The mamouth challenge then begins of getting the kit ready for when, as the saying goes, make hay when the sun shines. First off was the haylage. Our 100x90cm round bales have proven so popular we run out every year! No matter how much hay or haylage we produce, we always run out. Once the haylage was cut, turned, baled and wrapped it was onto the hay fields. Again, cut, turned atleast 3 times, baled and we wrap our hay as well. Main reason is for outside storage, but when you open the bale, it smells and looks exactly the same as the day it was baled.
Skip on a few months and we are into September, we have a new arrival! Our second child Oscar. We are now onto baling Wheat Straw for bedding of our Suffolk sheep, Farm Fresh White Turkeys for Christmas, oh and we cant forget our 3 cobs as well. Again the wheat straw was baled into 100x90cm round bales, wrapped for outside storage, for our customers and us.
Then we are straight into hedge cutting season, making our way around our commercial clients and private customers, triming the hedges ready for the spring for the nesting birds.
November hits, we are still hedge cutting, into our gritting jobs as well and our hay, haylage and straw flying out the doors.
Thank you to every single customer for their custom this year! As a family business, we cannot thank you enough for putting your trust in us. We hope that all the work we have carried out on your paddocks this year you have seen a improvement and hope to see you again next year.
